Boris Paulowitz, 41, of Palo Alto, California, was treated for cracked ribs and concussion after being assaulted in Cardiac Arrest, an infamous hang-out in Tenderloin, San Francisco.
“Then out of nowhere this bad cholesterol comes up to me and says: ‘Taking a walk on the wild side tonight, professor?’ I told it that I didn’t think it was ‘bad’ cholesterol at all, that it was a fake, just to see where it led, you know. And that’s when it grabbed my tie and put it in the cocktail juicer.”
Asked if the attack would deter him from trying to find the source of bad cholesterol, Paulowitz laughed and said that tonight he was driving to San Diego for a game of mid-stakes poker at Mama T’s Firebird Rooms. “There’s word on the grapevine that the low-density lipoprotein there is as bad as it gets. But this time I’m taking a taser.”
* Last month a cardiologist from Texas was attacked while investigating hardened arteries, and in 2005 a medical academic was killed while writing a paper on acute appendicitis.
“There was nothing cute about that appendicitis,” joked the coroner.Tweet
